How Students Can Prepare For Middle School Math Competition?

The key rule for scoring well in maths is to practice. There are no shortcuts and cheat codes to do any better. Try to solve last year’s papers, plan for group studies, or hire a math tutor. The best way is to have a systematic approach and to work accordingly.

Tips To Prepare For Your Maths Competition

Know the syllabus, weightage for topics, and marking scheme

This is the first thing to do before preparing for any exam. You should have complete knowledge of the syllabus, the weightage of each topic, and the marking scheme - whether they have negative markings or not.

Availability of Resources

Always remember that quality is the key to success. It is important to arrange for reliable study material. Try and gather previous year's test papers for the maths competition held in the last 10 years.

Make a Timetable and study accordingly

Preparing a timetable is one of the most important steps of your preparation. Fix the time of study and allocate the days for each topic. Always try to adhere to the timetable. By doing this, you will have enough time for revision and practice. Find yourself in a quiet room with a table and chair and be completely focused.

Last Minute preparation

When only a week is left for the competition, relax your mind. Do not study anything new. Revise your topics and formulas. Give mock tests and don’t stress yourself out if you are not scoring well in them. Try to focus on your weak areas.

Rest, on the day of the competition. Reach your destination at least 15 minutes before the competition starts. Be confident and calm.
